Poodle


Poodle dogs are an often misunderstood breed. Beneath the curly hair is a high intelligent dog, something that many people may be unaware of. When we think intelligent dogs we often think of cattle dogs or German shepherds, however the poodle is rated as one of the most intelligent dog breeds of all.


Poodles average around 45-65 pounds in weight. Their coat is generally curled or corded and can be a solid color of black, white, cream, gray, blue and others. They rarely shed hair and so are a great breed for allergy sufferers.

Poodles are very athletic and playful. They are very attentive and loyal to their owner. They are a breed who love to be around people, so if you are thinking of getting a poodle, ask yourself whether you have the time to give it what it needs.

Poodles also surprisingly make good watch dogs due to their tendency to bark alot. It is important however to also be aware that poodles are prone to diabetes, PRA, allergies, cataracts, epilepsy and heart disease.

Poodles require quite extensive grooming with clipping being required around once every two months.

Poodles are very trainable and early obedience training is ideal. They are able to learn tricks well and as such are often used at shows and events.

These dogs love to swum and enjoy walking on a leash. Poodles make great pets and love kids, making them a great family dog.
